Both woods are treated. Pine is chemically treated and cedar is naturally treated. Pine tends to crack, warp, and shrink. Cedar can also crack, warp, and shrink depending on the sun exposure, but will age better than pine.
-
Both types of lumber will last approximately 15 years, however cedar will look the best as it ages.
-
You can request cedar 2x4s and 4x4 posts, but industry standards are cedar pickets with treated pine 2x4s and treated pine posts. Commercial accounts sometimes request metal posts.

We use galvanized ring shank nails, which will not rust or pull out. We can use screws if requested.

Popular styles of wood fences we install are:
·Dogear - picket tops are cut off at an angle.
·Shadowbox - fence boards are alternated on either side of the fence rail using standard or dog-eared pickets, creating a gap in the fence.
·Cap and Face - tops of pickets are covered with a piece of trim on each side and a flat piece of wood at the very top of the fence.
·Board on Board - overlapping pickets are installed on the same side of the fence rail.
·Board and Batten - privacy fence built with a space between the backboards which is overlayed with batten board.
·Horse Fences - 3 rail, 4 rail, and cross buck.
